Join the Ocean Decade at COP26
The Ocean Decade provides a framework that convenes across geographies, across scales and across disciplines to co-design and co-deliver the knowledge needed to fill critical knowledge gaps and develop ocean-based solutions to meet planetary challenges such as climate change.
Generation and use of such knowledge will require a robust enabling environment with adequate resources, capacity and access to data and information.
Join our side events at the UNFCCC COP26 to take part in a global science movement to unlock climate action!
All events will be a mix of in-person and livestream events, although the number of seated places will be limited due to sanitary restrictions at the COP26 venue. Please keep an eye on our social for more details of the programme of each event and information on how to access streaming of the events.

Starting with an overview of critical knowledge gaps that are hindering our ability to effectively mitigate climate change, this event will present a series of flagship Ocean Decade Actions that are actively working to generate the science we need for the ocean we want in a changing climate. It will then look at how the Ocean Decade will convene diverse actors across the globe over the next ten years to fill remaining knowledge gaps. The event will mark the release of an IOC-UNESCO publication on the role of the Ocean Decade in climate action.
