Using ocean science to stop IUU fishing 2000 895 Ocean Decade

Lead institution:

USAID – United States of America (USA)

The governments of the Philippines and the United States have a long history of cooperation on sustainable fisheries and marine biodiversity conservation with a strong commitment to address illegal, unreported, and unregulated, or IUU, fishing.

In the Philippines, the losses from IUU fishing are estimated at 63 billion pesos annually. Science and data use through a whole-of-government approach is strategically guiding law enforcement, advancing stakeholder compliance, and clearly communicating progress in reducing IUU fishing in the Philippines.
