As part of the Ocean Decade framework, the Decade Collaborative Centre for the Indian Ocean Region (DCC-IOR) is organizing the ‘Indian Ocean Regional Decade Conference 2024: Bridging Billions to Barcelona. An Official Prelude to the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference’.
Sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences (Government of India), the conference will take place at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). From 1 to 3 February 2024, participants representing international, regional, and national entities engaged in ocean-related activities will convene to address critical issues faced by the Indian Ocean and its region.
The main objectives of the conference are :
- To involve and engage stakeholders of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) in Ocean Decade activities;
- To provide a platform for deliberating on the future priorities for the Ocean Decade Challenges that are emerging via the Vision 2030 process with focus to the IOR, and feed regional inputs to the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona in April 2024;
- To interact and network among the IOR stakeholders, including the National Decade Committees of the region;
- To provide a platform to voice the concerns and expectations of the stakeholders from ECOPs, academicians, industries, social scientists, NGOs and other ocean stakeholders.
As an official prelude to the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona, Spain, the outcomes of this gathering will serve as a strategic blueprint on the road to Barcelona, amplifying the collective voice of the Indian Ocean region on the global stage.
