Festival das Baleias (which can be translated to ‘Festival of Whales’) is a multidisciplinary and multisectoral event that aims to help reinforce concerns about the conservation of marine life and encourage tourism. The event, which has an itinerant nature, always occurs during the period when humpback whales migrate to the coast of Bahia, in Brazil, to reproduce.
The festival proposes the union of public and private institutions, researchers, educators, students and civil society to debate the situation of ecosystems in the coastal and marine zones and bring awareness to the importance of carrying out actions for environmental preservation. Round tables and lectures by researchers and environmental activists, present at the V Symposium of the Sea, discuss and prepare proposed guidelines for the sustainable use of the sea in the state of Bahia.
