This project aims to assess multiple environmental stressors along a Brazilian coastal basin (Guaraguaçu).
Understanding how different stressors impact coastal aquatic environments is essential for the development of effective measures to manage water resources. Stressors to be evaluated include pollutants in water and sediment, including emerging and microplastic contaminants; land use; hydrological changes, and biological invasions. In addition, it is intended to perform an integrated evaluation of environmental quality through the combined response of biological indicators (fish, macroinvertebrates, and macrophytes) to assess the effects of multiple stressors. An index will be created to evaluate the ecological integrity of coastal aquatic ecosystems considering multiple factors of disturbance that can be used as a model for identifying and monitoring coastal basin conservation status in other regions of Brazil.
