The Ocean Decade Gender Action Plan aims to advance gender equity in the second half of the Decade.
While progress has been made in the first half of the Decade, women and gender-diverse individuals remain underrepresented in leadership roles, decision-making processes, and scientific research within the ocean community generally. Structural barriers, social and cultural norms, and economic constraints continue to limit full participation and opportunities.
The Ocean Decade provides an opportunity to develop and implement systematic measures and tools to address issues of gender diversity that can have flow-on benefits for ocean science more broadly.
Produced by the Ocean Decade Gender Expert Working Group and the Decade Coordination Unit, this Action Plan outlines priorities and indicators to effectively integrate gender considerations across all Decade initiatives.
