Ocean and Human Health Conference Statement

Ocean and Human Health Conference Statement 1654 2338 Ocean Decade

The Joint Statement by the National Ocean Decade Committees partners of the Conference is one of the main outcomes of the the international conference “Ocean and Human Health”, organized by the Portuguese Ocean Decade Committee (CNDO) and held on 11–12 December 2025 in Lisbon.

This Statement emphasizes the need to bring ocean and human health closer together, recognizing the health sector as an important — though still under appreciated — ally in ocean protection.

The declaration calls for greater integration of these dimensions both internationally – particularly within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development initiatives – and nationally, advocating collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches capable of effectively responding to global challenges that simultaneously affect the health of the ocean and human populations.
