Global Fishing Watch (GFW) is dedicated to advancing the sustainability of our oceans, seas and marine resources through increasing fisheries transparency. Billions of people around the world depend on oceans for their livelihood and food security, and yet activities that take place at sea, out of sight of relevant authorities, threaten our ocean’s resilience. GFW aims to shine a light on global fishing activity by analysing and publishing fishing vessel and fisheries data which can empower governments, research organisations and enforcement agencies to develop and implement informed, effective fisheries governance and management policies, tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and designate and implement scientifically informed marine protected areas (MPAs). GFW is committed to providing this cost-effective support to States that may not have the capacity themselves.
