The Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS) is a national HICoE (Higher Institution Centre of Excellence) in marine science. It applies an integrated ocean approach in addressing marine and oceanographic issues at both local and regional level via various research teams. INOS has 6 research groups; Coastal & Ocean Dynamics (COD), Marine Pollution & Geochemistry (MPG); Ocean Mapping & Geospatial (OMG); Coral Reef Ecology (CORE); Marine Endangered Species (MES); and Remote Sensing & Marine Informatics (RSMI).
Additionally, INOS has four centre/unit namely the Centre for Ocean Governance (COG); Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU); Mangrove Research Unit (MARU); and the South China Sea Repository & Reference Centre (RRC).
INOS is supported by four laboratories specialising in Biological Oceanography & Biodiversity; Marine Chemical Oceanography & Pollution; Physical & Geological Oceanography and Satellite Oceanography & Marine Informatics.
