The University of Calabar is a second generation University established in 1975 with the ideals of establishing core teaching and research in Arts, Sciences and the Humanities. Presently she has about 17 Faculties, 3 Institutes, A postgraduate School, Center for Learning and Teaching Excellence, a computerized definitive Library, a Centre for African and Asian Studies amongst others. As a coastal University, she has established the Institute of Oceanography (an organized research Institute) since 1983, and recently the Faculty of Oceanography to promote the study of Ocean Sciences in Africa. Incidentally, the Faculty of Oceanography is the first of its kind in West and Central Africa.
