I am a research oceanographer working at CICESE in Ensenada, Baja California, and I am currently the PI of a very large project of 6 years in duration funden by the National Research Council and the Energy Secretary in Mexico, we have formed a consortium of 9 research institutions in Mexico grouping close to 200 researchers and 80 postdocs, CIGoMand are actively collaborating with another 6 institutions in Mexico and 6 worldwide. We have worked on baselines studies on the physics, biogeochemistry and ecology of the Gulf of Mexico, we have built a network of observibg systems including buoyes, a network of 15 costal radar stations and two gliders operating continuosly, we have working community computational models trying to reproduce our observations, and we have a microbiology group working on the genomic characterization of the microbiota in the Gulf of Mexico . It is the largest effort aver funded and working in the Mexican EEZ. The knowledge and human expertise we are generating could be a fundamental backbone for the Larger Caribbean OD objectives.
