Scottish Oceans Institute, East Sands St Andrews GBR
Founded in 2009, the overall objective of The Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS) is to facilitate better communication, collaboration and co-ordination within the marine research community whilst ensuring that Scottish marine science receives international recognition.
MASTS has demonstrably and successfully fostered a new era of multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional collaboration across the marine science community in Scotland. As part of this process and in addition to cultivating academic interactions, MASTS has actively engaged with Government, Policy, Regulators and industry. This cultural shift has taken time but is founded on providing opportunities and structures within which people can build meaningful collaborations and secure the resources needed to undertake research.
The following Universities are members of MASTS: Aberdeen, Stirling, St Andrews, Strathclyde, Glasgow, Heriot Watt, Edinburgh Napier, UHI, SAMS, Dundee, Edinburgh & West of Scotland. MASTS members also include Marine Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, British Geological Survey, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Joint Nature Conservation Committee & St Abbs Marine Station. We are also well linked to Europe through our membership of the European Marine Board, and have numerous links and MoUs with international partners.
The work of MASTS falls into a number of key activities: 1) Research; 2) Communication; 3) Graduate School; 4) Resources; 5) Representation and 6) Behavioural change. Find out more from our website at www.masts.ac.uk
