The Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) is a science-driven ocean observing network that delivers data from more than 800 instruments to address critical science questions regarding the world’s oceans. Funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation to encourage scientific investigation, OOI data are freely available online to anyone with an Internet connection. Scientists, educators, students, and policymakers are free to use OOI data to enhance understanding of the ocean to better address critical issues such as climate change, ecosystem variability, earthquakes, submarine volcanism, ocean acidification, and carbon cycling. OOI could be a critical resource for how to achieve a sustainable ocean.
