The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection was established in June 2001, at the initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa has been entrusted with its Presidency. The Foundation’s fundamental mission is to raise awareness and to promote sustainable development through environmental education. In this mission, the Foundation targets a large audience, ranging from students to political and economic decision makers. The Foundation operates in six activity areas: education for sustainable development, coastal preservation, responsible tourism, air and climate, restoration of historical parks and gardens and the protection and development of the Marrakech palm grove. These areas encompass eighteen Programmes operationalized under six working principles: co-construction, added value, efficiency, proactivity, commitment and independence. All in all, the Foundation has adopted one common approach that revolves around four axes, namely: sensitization and education, mobilization and federation of relevant actors as well as training, tools and capacity-building.
