Discover the winning shots from the Millimages des Récifs contest 2024, organized by the Pacific Coral Reef Institute in French Polynesia.

This annual contest, endorsed by the Ocean Decade, highlights the underwater beauties of the coral reef ecosystems of French Polynesia.

Julien Anton won this year’s theme, “Eat or be eaten”, with his photo of a parrotfish in a grouper’s mouth.

In addition, winners have been selected in four categories:

  • Free – people could send any picture of coral reefs from French Polynesia
  • Vahine – the category sponsored by the VAHINE ARATA’I association helping female entrepreneur
  • New hope – the category for young photographs under 25 years-old
  • Cultural Council‘s choice – a selection by the contest’s cultural council, made up of three people who are involved in French Polynesia’s cultural and artistic life: Hiriata Brotherson from the artistic Conservatory of French Polynesia; Daryl Leou from French Polynesia’s cultural archive department; and Hihiray Vaitoare, artist and teacher at Tahiti’s professional arts training center (Centre des Métiers d’Art de Tahiti).

A Public Vote award was also given in the Free, Vahine, and New hope categories.
