The Decade Coordination Office (DCO) for Ocean Data Sharing (DCO-ODS) has officially entered its next phase on 3 February 2025, scaling up its operations to support enhanced objectives. With Dr. Adam Leadbetter joining as the new Lead Manager, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to the mission, the DCO-ODS is prepared to continue its efforts in ocean data sharing and contribute to the advancement of the development of the global digital ocean ecosystem.
During the first phase, the DCO-ODS played a pivotal role in fostering and strengthening community relations within the digital ocean ecosystem—both among Ocean Decade entities and with a broader community of experts in the field. Through its engagement with Decade Actions, including a dedicated survey that received over 90 responses from participating Actions, the DCO-ODS gained valuable insights into these Actions’ activities, challenges, and needs related to data collection, management, and sharing, which helped shape its priorities moving forward.
As the DCO-ODS enters this new phase of operation, it will continue to engage Decade Actions through various channels, including the Community of Practice (CoP) and other targeted activities. The team remains committed to supporting effective knowledge and information exchange, contributing to awareness raising, capacity building, and collaboration with other Decade entities, in particular the Decade Collaborative Centre for Ocean Prediction and the DCO for Ocean Observing, to advance the development of an accessible, connected and collaborative global digital ocean ecosystem. These efforts align with the Decade Data & Information Strategy and support the achievement of Ocean Decade Vision 2030 goals.
