The 1st CCOceanos Lecture: Ocean Decade, under the theme «The Ocean Decade-Global Challenges / Data & Technology for Sustainability», will be held on April 16, at 6:00 pm, exclusively on LiveStream, with the support of Vodafone Foundation and the National Museum of Natural History and Science, Lisbon.
Sailing journalist Nysse Arruda, founder and curator of the Communication Center for the Oceans - CCOceanos, explains that this special series of lectures in Lisbon will present a variety of themes related to the newest UN initiative in the scope of the ocean: «The Decade of Ocean Science for the Sustainable Development (2021-2030)», also called “The Ocean Decade”, thus making Portugal a center of communication and sharing updated information about the Ocean.
This special series of CCOceanos lectures is supported by COIUNESCO,the coordinating entity for the preparations for the UNDecade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, which contributed to theidentification and selection of topics for the lectures and theinternational dissemination of the links of the Video LibraryCCOceanos Palestras on the YouTube channel.
Vinicius Grunberg Lindoso, in charge of Communication at IOCUNESCO,explains that the collaboration with theCommunication Centre for the Oceans-CCOceans through thisspecial series of lectures arose from the need to increase thenumber of informative actions on the ocean and on the UNDecade for the Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking public,building a greater understanding of the issues that will addressthe 2nd UN Conference on the Ocean in Lisbon (Altice Arena)meanwhile postponed due to the coronavirus-COVID pandemic19.
In addition to the renewal of an institutional partnership withCamões-Cooperation and Language Institute, IP, CCOceanosalso has the support of entities with national scope, such as thePortuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), theCasa da América Latina, the UCCLA-Union of PortuguesespeakingCapital Cities, the National Culture Center (CNC), theHydrographic Institute, the Lisbon Science Academy, in additionto the Ministry of the Sea, the Ministry of the Environment andthe Lisbon City Council and also non-governmental organizationssuch as the Marine MegaFauna Foundation in Mozambique andOnda Verde, the Women's League for the Oceans and AcquaMater in Brazil.
