The 2025 National Marine-Coastal Symposium, now in its eighth edition as part of the 2025 National Congress on Biological Diversity and Protected Areas, seeks to highlight the main challenges, advances, and opportunities for marine-coastal conservation and management in Guatemala.
The Forum will address key ocean issues, including multilevel governance, territorial management of coastlines, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), Fishing Recovery Zones (FRZs), the conservation of threatened marine species. It will promote coordination between communities, government, cooperation agencies, and civil society.
The Forum aims to be a key platform to share knowledge, generate commitments, and consolidate alliances around the conservation and sustainable use of the country’s marine-coastal ecosystems.
