Through the Ocean Science Big Data Competition, we have aimed to contribute to two of the seven outcomes of the UN Ocean Decade: “an accessible ocean” and “an inspiring and engaging ocean.”
The core objective of ‘the 4th ocean science big data contest’ is not only to contribute to the goals of the UN Ocean Decade but also to communicate marine science to the general public in practical and innovative ways. Collaborating with emerging ocean professionals from K-ECOP, mentoring programs, and field trips were provided to enhance Korean students’ ocean literacy and data literacy. In addition, we provided an opportunity for everyone from elementary school students to adults to utilize marine data and gain an understanding of the marine environment through data art.
