This free, online volunteer training delivered by Seal Research Trust (SRT) to build capacity in seal monitoring, individual seal photo-identification, citizen science data processing, and responsible marine wildlife observation.
The programme develops skilled local and remote citizen scientists supporting long-term monitoring of grey and harbour seals, strengthening evidence for conservation, research, planning, and policy. Participants gain skills in field surveys, species ID, seal age and sex classification, individual seal photo-ID from unique fur patterns, risk assessment, ethical wildlife monitoring, and data processing through structured self-led modules.
The Activity strengthens ocean literacy, stewardship, inclusive access to marine science, and sustained biodiversity monitoring.
