In March 2023, the Republic of Panama will become the first Central American country to host the Our Ocean Conference. With the theme “Our Ocean, Our Connection”, the conference will create a space for collaborative dialogue between Heads of State, private sector, civil society and academia around the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources, as well as public awareness about the ocean.
IOC Executive Secretary Vladimir Ryabinin will moderate Panel 3 – Climate change: facing climate consequences – Theme: The effect of climate change on the health of the ocean: biodiversity and coastal communities – on 2 March at 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm GMT-5.
On the same day, Vladimir Ryabinin will give the final remarks at the official side event Future of Reefs that will focus on replicable solutions addressing key local drivers of coral reef degradation and pathways to sustainable finance. The expert-led discussion will include the transition of local economies to “reef-positive”, efforts underway to attract private finance, and key points for coral in the lead up to COP28.
