This initiative aims to preserve, restore and enhance Shetland’s marine environment through a community-driven, collaborative approach.
The project will engage local residents, businesses, and organisations in identifying and prioritising areas for marine restoration and enhancement in Shetland. Through semi-structured interviews, online surveys and drop-in sessions, stakeholders will help co-create a 10-year action plan and guiding principles that aim to address key environmental challenges and opportunities, fostering stewardship and resilience.
The project will contribute to Shetland’s long-term economic and environmental sustainability by promoting a healthier marine ecosystem to benefit industries such as fishing and tourism while encouraging biodiversity and community cohesion. By leveraging local knowledge and fostering engagement, this project ensures inclusive decision-making and lasting impact for Shetland’s marine environment and resources.
