The International Symposium on Transformative Ocean Science will bring together in Venice around 100 invited scientists, policymakers, innovators and Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) from across the world to explore strategic directions for the future of marine research (24-27 March 2026).
Envisioned as a biennial international initiative, coordinated by CNR-ISMAR, the Symposium combines plenary keynotes and interdisciplinary working groups addressing key themes including artificial intelligence, ocean observation, deep-sea exploration, biodiversity, innovation, ethics and transdisciplinarity, and the science–policy interface. The format is designed to foster dialogue between research, governance, innovation communities and generations to identify priority knowledge gaps for ocean science.
Discussions will contribute to strategic outputs including a White Paper, Policy Brief and Strategic Roadmap, supporting future ocean research agendas and broader initiatives such as the Ocean Pact and the UN Ocean Decade.
