Ocean advocates Larissa Clark and Duncan Copeland are on a mission to use adventure sailing, citizen science and storytelling to inspire action for a healthy ocean among boating and coastal communities.
In July 2023 they’ll set sail on an international voyage aboard FREERANGER, a 50ft sailboat, and plan to:
- Use FREERANGER as a testbed and showcase for innovative and accessible research-based or green-operational technologies,
- Contribute to, and enable other boaters to take part in, the smorgasbord of citizen science projects around the world that urgently need support from sea-going folk, and
- Host local early-career conservation researchers and communicators in the countries they visit inspiring of career-propelling firsthand experiences at sea.
Free Range Ocean has started an ocean-focussed citizen science directory so ocean-going folk can find and connect with all kinds of citizen science research projects – from pollution to biodiversity – around the world. Explore the projects here and if you know about citizen science ocean projects we’re missing, please let us know so we can add them.
