This art installation by artisans from the Caiçara community of Matinhos, Brazil, uses glass waste, is presented by the Fundição Guará collective, which promotes socio-environmental culture by transforming glass waste into creative objects.
This initiative aims to generate income, foster social inclusion, and raise awareness about ocean conservation. The installation draws inspiration from mullets, fish known for forming large shoals during reproductive migration along Brazil’s coasts.
This fishing tradition is crucial to the community’s economy and culture, symbolizing the link between shoals and Paraná coast’s history. The interactive artwork highlights the intersection of visual arts and nature, reflecting on life’s transient presence in ecosystems and encouraging critical analysis of human-nature interactions. Created by Désirée Sessegolo, the installation measures 2 x 2 m and will be exhibited at the Federal University of Paraná, Arte em Vidro Brasil Salon, and Venice Glass Week, at the below dates:
- September 13-21, 2025 – Venice, Italy: Exhibition at the Venice Glass Week festival, as part of the 2nd Brazilian International Glass Art Exhibition.
- December 15-January 15, 2026 – Exhibition at Estação das Artes in Morretes, Paraná;
