Bridging oceans: capacity building, comms & equity

This session, delivered by Niru Dorrian, the IMarEST Appointed Ambassador to the UN Ocean Decade, is part of the programme at the British Ecological Society’s Annual Meeting, one of Europe’s largest ecological conferences with more than 1,700 delegates.

The session focuses specifically on equitable capacity development, accessible training, and international knowledge sharing in marine ecological science, using global case studies to show how industry, academia, policymakers, and communities can address skills and resource gaps through mentorship, bursaries, collaborative workshops, and sustainability fund initiatives. The session highlights how inclusive engagement and collaboration can deliver measurable, scalable improvements for marine ecology opportunities, and sustainable ocean management.
