“Tales of the Sea – ArtScience to Communicate the Ocean” is a project promoted by the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (DiSVA) of the Polytechnic University of Marche, the Omero State Tactile Museum and the E. Mannucci High School of Art in Ancona.
The project aims to engage the public through art in order to raise awareness on important sea-related issues and to make it in an accessible way, since the hosting Museum is conceptualized for being accessible to people with disabilities.
The project was officially presented at the Omero Museum on May 22, 2024, on World Biodiversity Day, and at the same time the installation “Circular,” created by some students of the Mannucci High School of Art, was inaugurated.
The installation depicts a stuffed sea turtle, a Caretta caretta specimen, found stranded in 2023 and recovered for dissemination purposes, and which has thus become a symbol to raise awareness on urgent issues such as the great social inequalities that trigger dramatic human migrations and the rapid loss of biodiversity that sees humans as both perpetrators and victims.
The installation will be on view until September 8, 2024, at the Omero State Tactile Museum in Ancona.
