The competition organized by DPHDM in collaboration with the ALARJ aims to awaken young people’s understanding of the vital importance of the ocean and the Navy’s role in preserving, protecting, and valuing this natural and cultural heritage.
More than a competition, this initiative aims to educate young people who are aware, engaged, and capable of acting as agents for the preservation of marine biodiversity, the historical memory of the Navy, and Brazilian cultural heritage, thereby consolidating a legacy of responsibility, citizenship, and sustainability.
To participate in the 1st Essay Competition, applicants must be Brazilian-born or naturalized individuals who are duly enrolled in Lower Secondary Education (8th and 9th grades) or Upper Secondary Education (1st, 2nd, and 3rd years of high school). The competition is related to Ocean Literacy, as well as the 7 principles of Ocean Literacy and the 10 Challenges. A writing workshop will be offered, following a lecture to contextualize Oceanic Literacy, its principles, and challenges.
