This virtual session “Co-designing the science we need for Africa” is convened by IOC-UNESCO Sub Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States (IOCAFRICA), with the support of the Swedish Ministry of the Environment , as part of the Ocean Decade Virtual Series.
It will explore opportunities and challenges and discuss best practices to deliver co-designed, solution-oriented research that will lead to transformative Decade Actions with long-lasting benefits to the ocean and society.
Following the first global event on this topic, this virtual session will dive into Africa's contextual factors (drivers and perceptions) along with its needs and priorities at regional level in terms of transforming knowledge systems, developing capacity and enhancing training and education.
The session will be organised in two parts:
-Part 1 - What are the main challenges and opportunities for collaborative research at regional level?
-Part 2 - What are the capacity development, training, education and resource needs at regional level?
