By the end of 2024, 51 IOI Ocean Academy Courses will have been successfully delivered globally by the IOI Ocean Academy Directors based in Costa Rica, Egypt, Georgia, India, Kenya, Maldives, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, Ukraine, and another node focussing on the Black and Mediterranean Seas.
The programmes were offered in 16 local languages or dialects including , Arabic, Dhivehi, English, French, Georgian, Hindi, Kiswahili, Marathi, Portuguese, Sinhala, Spanish, Thai, Tunisian Dialect, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and attracted thousands of application from interested persons world wide.
In حزيران/يونيو, the IOI Ocean Academy was officially endorsed as Decade Action “No 65.6. IOI Ocean Academy – Ocean Knowledge for All” as a project forming part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030. The endorsement reaffirms IOI’s long-standing engagement and commitment to the Ocean Decade vision and the IOI Ocean Academy is attached to “No. UN7. Ocean Literacy With All (OLWA)”. The engagement and commitment and excellent work of the IOI Ocean Academy Directors has been the foundation upon which the IOI Ocean Academy Ocean Literacy outreach programme and the endorsement relies.
