The CASCADES Expedition is a collaborative research mission led by the Swiss Polar Institute, a Decade Implementing Partner, the Institut Nordique du Québec and the French Polar Institute, focused on studying the changing coastal environments of West Greenland, Baffin Bay, and Ellesmere Island.
Over the summer and autumn 2026 aboard the research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen, researchers will investigate interactions between atmosphere, sea-ice, glaciers, ocean and terrestrial ecosystems. Key topics include glacier-melt impacts on fjord systems, marine biodiversity, freshwater and pollutant transport, early sea-ice formation and the implications for coastal communities.
