Development of a Warning System for Predicting the Risk of Formation of Intense Atmospheric Vortices of Various Spatial and Temporal Scales (Water Tornadoes, Polar Mesocyclones) Over the Seas of the Arctic and Middle Latitudes 1500 694 Ocean Decade

This effort plan to develop an automated system to forecast the risk of formation of intense atmospheric vortices – waterspout over the seas of middle latitudes and polar cyclones over the seas of Arctic latitudes and delivering this information to consumers.

The system will be based on ground radar and satellite monitoring data, as well as on the results of calculations based on numerical weather forecast models. Appropriate methods will be developed for predicting the risk of formation of intense atmospheric vortices, taking into account regional features of their genesis within the considered water areas. The methods will be based on adaptive algorithms for data aggregation and subsequent calculation of risk zones for the formation of vortices.
