This project strengthens tsunami early warning and preparedness in the Northwest Indian Ocean (NWIO) through regional cooperation. It builds on Phases 1 and 2 to enhance national and community capacities for the implementation of the UNESCO-IOC Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP) in pilot communities across India, Iran, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
It also supports tsunami hazard assessments of non-seismic sources in the Makran Subduction Zone and the development of SOPs for multi-hazard early warning. The project contributes to the two main goals of the Ocean Decade Tsunami Programme (ODTP): (1) enhancing global tsunami warning systems to provide timely, actionable warnings to all at-risk coasts, and (2) ensuring 100% of at-risk communities are prepared and resilient to tsunamis by 2030
