The SPEED (Simulation and Prediction of Environment and Engineering for Deep-sea) project builds integrated simulation models and intelligent digital twin systems to assess and predict impacts on the marine environment, promoting the sustainable development of deep-sea resources.
By coupling hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and marine ecosystem models with multi-source data including satellite imagery, airborne remote sensing, and underwater sensor networks, the system facilitates interdisciplinary research in physical oceanography, marine geochemistry, marine geology and geophysics, and atmospheric science. It provides spatiotemporally resolved environmental forecasts for deep-sea engineering operations. With a focus on critical regions such as the Indian Ocean, the project seeks to balance resource extraction with environmental conservation, offering science-based support for regulation, policymaking, and climate resilience planning.
