The Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO) is a network of the Pacific Arctic Group that is also supported by the Marine Working Group of the International Arctic Science Committee.
Developed to document ecosystem responses to ongoing environmental changes observed in the Arctic, the DBO provides a framework for standard sampling of physical, chemical and biological measurements over time. The DBO model has recently expanded into a Pan-Arctic DBO network, with sites identified in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Canadian Arctic, and the Siberian seas. This development of internationally coordinated change detection network and its interconnection with declining seasonal sea ice, warming water temperatures, stratification changes and other processes are impacting all aspects of the overall marine ecosystem. An Ocean Decade endorsement will further strengthen these internationally coordinated activities.
