Climate change is altering ecosystems and their services. Alongside extensive emissions reductions, carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies may help meet global climate goals.
Multiple marine CDR (mCDR) options are gaining increased attention, but the impacts of these interventions to ecosystems and resources is less known, particularly for fisheries-related or cultured organisms at research or commercial cumulative scales.
This decade project aligns with the Barcelona Statement on the potential impacts and social feasibility of mCDR by integrating knowledge of existing coastal marine users.
This is facilitated through a partnership of: fisheries, Indigenous and aquaculture communities; natural and social scientists, and; governance and policy specialists.
This Decade project highlights potential benefits or risks of mCDR activities to established coastal activities and industries, facilitating important dialogues for inclusive participatory processes aimed at equitable outcomes.
