Ocean Literacy Across Languages (OLAL) is an ECOP-led initiative that empowers communities to connect, learn, and act for the ocean across cultures and languages.
Originally inspired by the challenge of language barriers in ocean knowledge, especially in countries where English is not an official language, OLAL will (1) establish a global, youth-led database of ocean literacy projects and actions, hosted on the ECOP Programme website, and (2) launch a multilingual Ocean Literacy Publication Series, beginning with Chinese and English and gradually expanding to other languages.
By bridging best practices with local perspectives, OLAL fosters collaboration among scientists, youth, NGOs, communities and policymakers, enriches ocean literacy, and builds inclusive, cross-cultural knowledge networks to inspire collective stewardship for the “ocean we want.”
