The Nature-based Solutions in Conflict-Affected Coastal Communities Decade Action focuses on nature-based solutions (NbS) for climate adaptation projects in vulnerable coastal regions.
These communities are often simultaneously affected by mobility restrictions, economic instability, and environmental degradation. While NbS can contribute to building resilience, their implementation in conflict settings is limited. This Decade Action is developed to advance the implementation of NbS in vulnerable regions in ways that prevent unintended social or ecological consequences.
Focusing on a conflict-affected region of the Caribbean coast of Colombia, this Decade Action uses household surveys, stakeholder workshops, and social network analysis to assess adaptation project options. Expected outcomes include improved coastal resilience, reduced maladaptation risks, stronger community networks, and capacity-building for conservation organisations.
