ICTs4SSF: Building Capacity for Coastal Resilience empowers small-scale fishing communities to become active contributors to ocean science and climate resilience through co-designed digital tools, training, and inclusive capacity development.
Leveraging ABALOBI’s proven ICT platforms, the initiative equips fishers, cooperatives, and youth with skills in real-time environmental monitoring, sustainable fisheries co-management, financial and digital literacy, organisational development, and digital traceability.
In partnership with KU Leuven’s Climares project, fishers serve as a “human sensor network,” reporting local marine changes that inform safety, adaptation, and ecosystem stewardship.
This initiative builds long-term, locally embedded ocean knowledge capacity in SIDS, LDCs, and vulnerable coastal states, fostering equitable participation and sustaining benefits well beyond the Ocean Decade.
