Marine spatial planning, as a method to guide how, when and where to use the ocean, can play a crucial role in guiding the Marine carbon sink to play a carbon reduction role.
However, there are few reports on the research and practice of functional zoning of Marine carbon sinks in the world, and how to promote the best carbon emission reduction function of Marine carbon sinks through Marine spatial planning is rarely mentioned. In addition, the internal relationship between offshore carbon sink scale, pattern, carbon storage, carbon flux and external driving factors and the spatio-temporal response are still unclear. There are few studies on the theoretical and methodological system construction of Marine carbon sink functional zones, so it is not possible to effectively judge and distinguish between natural carbon sink functional zones and artificial enhanced carbon sink functional zones.
