Expedition Coastline in the Ocean Decade

Expedition Coastline is a year-long project involving classes from the Belgian Central Coast, and will be repeated every other school year.

It combines fieldwork (citizen science) and action-oriented challenges. With guidance from voluntary SeaWatchers, pupils study their own beach area as part of the SeaWatch-B Youth Network. Their findings contribute to a scientific database. The insights gained inspire a self-chosen challenge, such as blue energy, biodiversity, or pollution, linked to the UN Ocean Decade Challenges. Throughout the project, pupils work independently and creatively. The school year concludes with an event where they present their results to peers and partners. Expedition Coastline empowers young people to understand the ocean and take meaningful action to protect it.
