Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of Chilean Navy – Chile
The main mission of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA) is provide technical elements, information, and assistance in order to ensure safe navigation in territorial waters and high seas adjacent to the Chilean coast.
It also constitutes the official, technical, and permanent service of the state in all matters related to hydrography, cartography, and the preparation and publication of navigation charts for national waters.
In this context, the SHOA contributes, through marine scientific research, to the development and promotion of other related national and international activities that are of interest to Chile.
With the aim of reducing existing gaps in bathymetric data in the southern hemisphere, this Service will share with GEBCO the bathymetric obtained during the hydrographic surveys carried out by SHOA, as well as those obtained from scientific research carried out under Chilean national jurisdiction, once a two-year retention period has passed
